EMAS in a Nutshell
EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is an environmental management scheme based on EU-Regulation 1221/2009.
There are five stakeholders:
- EU Commission: provides the regulatory framework for EMAS. (EU-EMAS-Helpdesk)
- Competent Bodies of the Member States: appointed by national environmental authorities in order to perform the registration process. (DIHK in Germany)
- Accreditation/Licensing Bodies of the Member States: appointed by national environmental authorities in order to provide accreditation and supervision of environmental verifiers. (DAU in Germany)
- Environmental Verifiers: external auditors and verifiers for environmental statements. (EU-Register of environmental verifiers)
- Organisations which want to be or already are registered with EMAS. (EU-Register of already registered organisations)
